Nest Thermostat not internally jumping Rc/Rh

I have a Nest Learning Thermostat, 3rd generation. In the old thermostat, we had a jumper cable from Rc to Rh, but Nest instructions say not to use the jumper in their thermostat since it should handle it internally. But we no longer have a forced air fan after installing the Nest Thermostat. Any ideas on what went wrong? Here are photos of the before and after wiring.

Hi chimerical,

Thanks for posting in the Google Nest Community forum. The copper from your power wire is too exposed.

Please give these steps a whirl: Ensure to turn the breaker off before touching the wires.

  1. Remove the wires from the connectors and straighten the wires.
  2. Cut it and expose only ⅓ inch to ½ inch of copper.
  3. Turn the breaker back on.

Also, double check your heat type set on your thermostat. If your heating system is gas, select gas.

Best,
Jenelyn
