Nest Thermostat not working with Alexa anymore and Google Home not able to add device

adamskyj

Tearing my hair out.

I upgraded to another mobile and when all set back up Alexa no longer recognised the thermostat, which has run with voice commands since July 2019.  It works with the Nest app perfectly fine, just Alexa will not recognise instructions to set heat to XYZ.  Now apparently to use Alexa I have to move over to Google Home (why, I don't know).  However Google Home will not auto detect the thermostat, so it offers a QR Code, which I have tried but that is rejected, so I continue without scanning and then it wants the setup code six digits, which I insert then click next and it says "Choose the last four characters of your device's serial number", but offers no ability to input it.

I am stuck in limbo here, I bought this thermostat for the sole intention of Alexa function and now can't do that.  I can use the phone nest app, but that defeats the subject.  I have tried updating BOTH phone apps (Google and Nest) to no avail, I have restarted the thermostat including reset and still to no avail.

I also have seen this subject mentioned in this forum previously and nobody seems to have a solution to it, reviews of the app suggest others have encountered the same too.  This must be a known fault, and since Google took over full control of Nest.  A cynical person would suggest that Google doesn't want Alexa competition......

Please  help.

Hello adamskyj,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues controlling your Nest Thermostat with Alexa. I'd be happy to take a look into this for you.

If your thermostat was already added to your account via the Nest app, there is no need for you to add it as a new device in the Google Home app. Please ensure that you are logged in to your Google Home app with the same address that is linked to your thermostat in the Nest app. If so, check for any other available home structures you might have where your thermostat might be connected. Here's your guide on how to switch home structures. Also, have you tried the steps in this guide?

Please let me know if that helps.

Mark
