Nest Thermostat only controls hot water whilst Central Heating is on

Hi, I noticed whenever we try to Boost the hot water mid day then it never seems to work.

In fact the only time we get Hot Water since installing Nest is in the morning, during a Hot Water schedule that also coincides with the heating scheduled to be on also.

I've run a couple of scenarios whilst watching the Boiler + Heatlink, & touching the pipes feeding the radiators + hot water tank to try and diagnose the issue, and have concluded that Nest only "calls for hot water" whilst the Central heating is already on.

The scenarios I tried are:

Scenario 1) Boost Hot Water whilst heating is off
Observation:
- The Heatlink clicks a few seconds after boosting the hot water
- Boiler remains off
- Motorised valve for Hot Water becomes powered & opens (but its cold water in the pipes so achieves nothing)

Scenario 2) Schedule Hot Water whilst the heating is off
Observations:
- The Heatlink clicks
- Boiler remains off
- Motorised valve for Hot Water becomes powered & opens (but its cold water in the pipes so achieves nothing)

Scenario 3 Part 1) Adjust the thermostat so that heating turns on
Observations:
- The Heatlink clicks
- Boiler turns on
- Motorised valve for the heating becomes powered, opens & heating pipework starts to warm up
Scenario 3 Part 2) Boost the Hot Water
- The Heatlink clicks
- Motorised valve for hot water becomes powered, opens & hot water pipework starts to warm up

Which leads me to the conclusion that we are only able to get Hot Water whilst the Central Heating is on.

Could incorrect wiring cause this issue? Or is it likely a bug with Nest?

It turned out the issue was a motorised valve not opening properly & instructing the boiler to switch on. This has now been fixed.

Hi there @ed0906

Thanks for letting me know of this. Great job on the troubleshooting steps. That's very helpful. From your observation the thermostat does it's job, which is sending the signal to the motorized valve. What happens further, it's not covered by my specialization, which is entirely just on the Nest Thermostat.

It would be for the best to have a few pictures of the wiring so I can check whether it's been miswired. Also, could you tell me please if there has been any electrician in there to check on it?
