Nest Thermostat problems and comments

My old Nest thermostat died, battery which was part of the board is no longer in product so I went o Lowes and purchased the new Nest thermostat.

Install was easy but I hate the schedules, went ahead and deleted all the schedules. What I really disliked about the thermostat was not being able to manually adjust it. Heaven forbid my phone got lost!! yes I know we can log into Nest via webpage but the lack of controls on the thermostat is not good.

Now for the reason I took the thermostat back to Lowes.....woke up this morning and noticed the house was rather warm. The brand new thermostat was gone from the nest app on my Pixel Pro. Restarted app, no luck. Log into Nest via webpage still no thermostat. Display on thermostat showed it connected but operating on its own.

I really wish Google would stop forcing these schedules down. Went to Lowes and pushed a non programable thermostat that wont force energy conservation.

I am not sure where you get your product information from but you are incorrect in making your statement of facts. The Nest Thermostat uses replaceable batteries and the Nest Learning Thermostats use lithium ion batteries. What is the model number of your old Nest Thermostat?

The Nest Learning Thermostat does not force schedules onto the homeowner. The Auto Schedule feature does indeed build a schedule in the first week of use.  It does this by monitoring the temperature set-point changes you make daily. It normalizes the data collected and builds the schedule. However, it does not automatically activate the schedule. To activate the schedule the homeowner must take the action to select the schedule.

If you should be so unfortunate as to loose your phone, you can still, as you say, manually operate the Nest Thermostat using the display. If you set a 4-digit lock pin, the Nest will still allow you to unlock the Nest Thermostat display by simply entering the 4-digit pin. The  nice feature of the Nest you can even set a custom temperature set-point range while locked. It is so cool that you can set range of temperatures that can be accessed while locked. Minimum 5-degrees swing, to as much as you want. Mine is 75 to 80. Heck you can set is say 70 to 85 if you wanted.
So you happen to have a Google Pixal Phone, and you say the thermostat mysteriously “disappeared“ from the Google Nest App? And you claim that when you logged in online is was not there either? This is alarming since there has been no service disruption on the Google cloud, and the Google Pixal phone has no reported problems with compatibility with the Google Nest App. As for your statement that the Nest “operating on its own” yes indeed the thermostat does that, in fact all thermostats do that. Whatever temperature set-point you establish, the thermostat will call for heat or cooling when needed.  It operates without you having to do anything more.

If you have a problem with energy conservation? Then why do you even care what the thermostat does or does not do? On any Nest model thermostat, you can disable any of the energy saving features you wish in the settings menu.

Based on what you wrote, how you wrote your words and sentences, I believe you are not a real Google Nest Customer. I have a hunch you are one of those product keyboard warriors that is paid to post negative comments about company products.
I will admit that I might be wrong, but heck, prove me wrong.  What was the Nest Model and serial number you had for years and the Model and serial number of the Nest Learning Thermostat you purchased at Lowe’s Home Improvement store? And, what was the Nest account ID used for your two Nest Thermostats.

If you take a look at both pics, one has the model and the other is the inside of the thermostat. In theory this battery is replaceable however this voltage/amp  battery is not available any longer and you need to go with a different batter. Never mind try removing the battery which is extremely difficult.  Lastly, try putting the black plastic cover back on with all the four tiny screws. Which is why IMHO Google went to a different design.

As for the scheduling you are incorrect. The new Nest thermostat comes preloaded with schedules and automatically assumes them. I assume you are correct in that over time it changes and it does allow you to modify them but unless you delete them the thermostat automatically starts using one or more.

Clearly Google is handing out the title "Platinum Product Expert" to any dope willing to spend their time on here endlessly.

@kernels , I am sorry for doubting your authenticity.  The preloaded schedules are based on the DOE standards for energy conservation. In fact the energy saving temperature set-points are DOE mandated.   They are present even on Honeywell and other brand smart thermostats. However, they are not active like your personal schedule you create.  They are preloaded for the ECO Home and Away.  And yes, you can easily disable the schedule and the Home and Away feature.

Wow, and no you are calling me a “dope” because I earned a platinum level recognition. Ok, here comes my information:

AS degree in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology

AS degree in Electrical Wiring Technology

BS Degree Mechanical Engineering

BSM degree Industrial Technology Management

33 year career in design, fabrication, installation and repair of commercial and residential HVAC/R equipment and control systems.

Clearly I must be a dope for spending all that money on education, equipment, vehicles, tools, staff, insurance etc.  and to think I thought I was doing it correctly…, and now I am a dope.

So, what is your background?
