Nest Thermostat remote not found

My nest learning thermostat can't find not one but both remote censors. I even put them next to the thermostat. I installed new batteries too. Any ideas?

Are you sure your thermostat is compatible with remote sensors? It needs to be an E or 3rd gen.

This is the same issue I had. The only solution for me was factory reseting the thermostat. This is clearly not great because it loses all the "learning" and has to be reconfigured. I'm trying to find another way around this because this is the second time I'm having this issue
