Nest Thermostat temperature display

Currently when I walk by the Nest Thermostat, it displays the set temperature in nice big numbers and the actual room temperature in tiny numbers.

Is there any way to switch that display?

Reason is, I know what it is set at, but I have a wood stove in the same room and many times the actual room temperature is above the set temp - I would like to see that number, not the set number.

thanks

Hi ancientone,

Yes, you can switch the display on your Nest Thermostat to show the actual room temperature in larger numbers instead of the set temperature. By following these steps, you should be able to switch the display on your Nest Thermostat to show the actual room temperature prominently. This way, you can easily monitor the temperature in the room, especially in situations where the actual room temperature differs from the set temperature due to the presence of a wood stove or other heating sources. Keep in mind that the specific menu options or navigation steps may vary slightly depending on your Nest Thermostat model and software version. If you have the Nest Learning Thermostat or Nest Thermostat E, follow these:

  1. On your thermostat, thermostat screen, tap the screen to bring up the main menu.
  2. Scroll through the menu options on the thermostat screen and select "Settings" by tapping on it.
  3. Choose "Display".
  4. To customize the temperature display, navigate to the Display settings and select "Set Temperature" or "Room Temperature" from the options, then choose "Room Temperature" to change the display preference.
  5. To save changes to your thermostat, navigate through the menu options after selecting "Room Temperature" and select the option to apply the changes, which may require scrolling or tapping a specific button.

Let us know how that works.

Best,

Zoe

Hello - I recently got a Google Nest Learning Thermostat.  I followed your directions, as I prefer the large display to show the current room temp - I clicked on the option 'current temp' and clicked on 'Done' - it said in text Farsight & "Current Temp" - but the large display still shows 'set to' - how do I get it to change so the large display shows the room's current temp?   thank you.

Hi Zoe,

We have the plain Nest Thermostat - no "E" & no "Learning", so your instructions do not follow after getting into "Settings", there is no "Display" option.  Version 1.3-10 - am I to guess that my smart thermostat has a low IQ?

Hi there,

Chiming in — it looks like you have the Nest Thermostat 2020. To confirm, do you prefer to show your actual room temperature in a big number, and small number for the set temperature?

I appreciate your input, Zoe.

Regards,

Jenelyn

Yes that is correct

Hey ancientone,

Thanks for confirming. Unfortunately, this is only available in the Nest Learning Thermostat using the Farsight feature, and it's not currently available in the Nest Thermostat 2020. I encourage you to send your feedback, as our team is working hard to deliver the best experience for our users.

Kind regards,

Jenelyn

Hello - I recently got a Google Nest Learning Thermostat, and I followed Zoe's directions above, as I prefer the large display to show the room temperature, not what the thermostat is set to.  I was able to select 'current temp' and click 'done' - the text then shows 'Farsight' & 'Current Temp'  but the large display is still set to what the thermostat is set to, instead of the room actual temp - help!  how can I get the large display to indicate the temperature in the room?  thank you

Thanks Jenelyn & Zoe - does anyone know if Google will take a trade-in?!

Hey there,

We're glad to hear you're interested in Google trade-in for your Nest Thermostat! Currently, Google only supports Pixel devices for trade-in. However, if you're interested in recycling your Nest Thermostat or other electronic devices, many local recycling centers or electronic recycling programs accept old devices for proper disposal. Some retailers and manufacturers also offer recycling programs for their products. You can check with your local recycling facilities or consult the manufacturer's website for information on recycling options for your specific device.

Google occasionally runs trade-in programs for certain devices, so it's possible that they may introduce a trade-in program for Nest devices in the future. Keep an eye out for news and updates.

Best regards,

Zoe
