Nest Thermostat

I have an American Standard thermostat and just purchased a Neat Learning Thermostat. The only wire from the old thermostat that I cannot determine how to connect to the Nest is a wire connected to the BK terminal. That terminal is for VS mode for the fan. Am I able to use the VS mode with the Nest Learning Thernostat?

Hi Jmolimpi,

Thanks for bringing this up here in the Google Nest community. Let's check this out. There are a couple of fan features, like fan schedule and HVAC fan speed, that our Nest Thermostat has, but I wanted to look deeper into this VS mode before we conclude. Please answer the following:

  1. Are you from North America or Europe?
  2. What type of Nest Thermostat do you have or plan to have?
  3. Send us a picture of your HVAC control board wiring.
  4. What is the make and model of your HVAC?

I look forward to your response

Cheers,

Renz

Hi Rene and thank you. I am located in the USA, and I just purchased a Nest Learning Thermostat, 3rd gen, which I have not installed yet. I’ll attach a picture of my HVAC control board wiring. My HVAC is American Standard but I’m not sure of the model. I’ll attach the label.

Hello Jmolimpi,

Thanks for the update. Based on the photo you sent, you don’t need to put the BK wire into our Nest Learning Thermostat. The fan will activate automatically with your system. The Nest Thermostat uses the G wire for this.

In addition to this, the Nest Thermostat has fan functions in the settings if you need to run the fun independently, but it doesn't have BK mode.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Renz.
