Can you cool your home without using ECO? My thermostat thinks I am away and goes into ECO and my home gets very warm.

Hi TeacherN,

Thanks for posting here in the Community. I am sorry that you are having issues with the ECO mode in your Nest Thermostat. I'd be happy to help you. Let’s check it out.

Before we get started with further troubleshooting, let me ask you some important questions:

  1. What Nest Thermostat model do you have?
  2. Does the thermostat display show any error codes or messages?
  3. Have you followed any troubleshooting already?
  4. What type of system do you have? (Heat Pump or conventional type)

It's frustrating when your Nest Thermostat unexpectedly goes into ECO mode, causing your home to become uncomfortably warm. But let’s check some potential causes and solutions:

  1. Home/Away Assist Settings:
    • Check Phone Presence: Ensure your phone is detected as being at home when you're present. Review the Home/Away Assist settings in the Nest app.
    • Disable Home/Away Assist: Temporarily disable Home/Away Assist to see if it resolves the issue.
    • Adjust Sensitivity: If you keep Home/Away Assist enabled, adjust the sensitivity to better detect your presence.
  2. Nest App Issues:
    • Update App: Ensure you're using the latest version of the Nest app.
    • Restart App: Close and reopen the Nest app.
  3. Thermostat Settings:
    • Eco Temperature: Review the Eco temperature settings. Ensure they're set appropriately for your comfort.
    • Schedule: Check your heating and cooling schedule to avoid conflicts with Eco mode.
    • Check that your system doesn't need maintenance.

You can check the following guide to Troubleshoot strange heating or cooling behavior. You can also check the following article to Restart or reset a Nest thermostat depending on your device's model and make sure the correct process is followed.

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Mario
