Nest Third Generation Thermostat

I have a 3rd generation Nest Thermostat and occassionally, the "wake upon approach" feature ceases operation and sometimes the wifi becomes disconnected.  If I remove the thermostat and charge it with an external charger, the problems are solved.  I don't understand?  The thermostat is hard-wired for continuous charging so why I am observing this behavior? Thanks

Hello Gary22,

Thanks for reaching out! It's not uncommon for electronic devices, including smart thermostats like the Nest Thermostat, to experience occasional glitches or connectivity issues. It's great that you've found a workaround by removing and charging the thermostat externally.

When you charge the thermostat externally and the issues are resolved, it could be indicating a temporary power or charging issue within the thermostat itself. Here are a few things you might want to consider:

  1. Ensure that the power source provides continuous charging to your Nest Thermostat is stable and functioning properly. A fluctuating power source might contribute to intermittent issues.
  2. Confirm that your thermostat is within the range of a strong and stable Wi-Fi signal. Weak or intermittent Wi-Fi connectivity could cause disruptions in the wake-on-approach feature.
  3. Does it have a C wire installed?
  4. Gather the power readouts in the Technical Info settings and check for any wiring reports or message codes that would help us determine power-related issues.

Keep us posted.

Regards,
Mark
