Nest app is off line

My Nest Thermostat app is telling me it's off line. The device itself is connected to my WiFi, but cannot control the device via my phone app.

It was working fine until today.

I've reinstalled the app, checked my router and checked for updates on the thermostat but no joy. Is the app broken?

Hey docpratt,

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • Did you make any changes to your Wi-Fi network?
  • How far is your thermostat from your Wi-Fi router?
  • What is the power reading of your Nest Thermostat? You can find this information by going to Settings > Technical Info > Power.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Archie

Hello Archie

I've received a new thermostat replacement, but still cannot get it to pair to the heat sink. I give up. Now awaiting for the engineer that originally installed everything to revisit and sort it out.
This is the most complicated device I've ever known...

Hi Jake thanks for your email. I've had a full replacement and now it works perfectly.

The only other issue I have (and am not too bothered about but bugs me a bit) is I cannot get my Nest thermostat to sync with my Alexa app.

The Google Home app does not scan the code, manual entry of the 6 figure code doesn't work at the next stage as there's no opportunity to enter a further 4 figure code. No keyboard prompt to enter it.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you 😊

Hello everyone,

@docpratt I'm dropping by to ensure that everything is covered here. How's it going with your Nest Thermostat? You may try the steps below:

Add a new Nest thermostat, camera or doorbell:

  1. Add your Nest device to the Google Home app .
  2. At the top right of the app home screen, tap your account profile and then Home app settings.
  3. Tap Partner connections and then Amazon Alexa.
  4. Turn on permissions for your new device.
  5. Say 'Alexa, discover my devices'.

Remove a Nest device:

  1. Do either of these steps.
  • Turn off Alexa partner connections permissions for that device.
  • Remove your device from the Home or Nest app.

       2. Wait a few minutes, then refresh the Alexa app.

Hit this link for more information.

I appreciate the help, Archie, Jake and Jenelyn.

Thanks,

Emerson

Well, this falls at the first hurdle as after clicking on ‘Partner Connections’ the next page states that ‘Can’t find devices in Home’ Make sure that you have at least one device in your home.

Well I have.

Hello, Google /Nest must have updated their software sync features as I can now use my Alexa with Nest although Alexa shows the temperature in Fahrenheit instead of Celsius.

Hey docpratt,

I'm glad that the issue with your Google Home and Nest app is now fixed. In the Alexa app, go to Settings > This Device > Temperature Units then Select either metric (Celsius) or imperial (Fahrenheit).

Best,

Jenelyn

I do not have a 'This Device' under settings. There is no function to enable me to change the the tempreature units. Please advise.
