Hi all,
We're having multiple nests installed at our home and currently, we have a master clock that controls heating for the underfloor, hot water, and a 2nd hot water output for towel rails. We have 9 separate zones managed by a multizone wiring centre for the underfloor heating. We want to replace the master clock with the Nest, and we are content to have the hot water and towel rail connections diluted down to a single output from the Nest (as I think that is the only solution). Our current master clock is in the kitchen and there is a separate thermostat in the kitchen back to the wiring centre. Our electrician tells us that a single Nest cannot act as a master clock (for the whole house) and a thermostat for the same room it's installed in at the same time but I have not seen this to be the case in other properties. I'm also aware that underfloor heating is most efficient when it's left at "constant on". Is his information accurate? I have no Nest experts in my area so the electrician appears to be learning about the installation as I do.
Many Thanks,
PJ

Hello PJRankin,
Thanks for reaching out to our community.
Setting up a more complex system can be challenging, but let's dive deeper.
Regarding thermostat efficiency, for most systems, leaving your underfloor heating on a constant low setting can be more efficient than cycling it on and off. This reduces startup time and energy usage, as well as large temperature swings. However, it's important to consider your energy costs to see if continuous operation might actually be more expensive.
Nest thermostats are designed to control a single zone. However, I think it would be a great idea to take a closer look at your system and how it's configured to check if there's any way it can work with a Nest thermostat. I suggest filling out this form, by doing so you'll get in direct contact with my team via email so we can gather more information and determine whether replacing your central heating control with a Nest thermostat is the best solution for you.
Let me know once you've filled out the form, i'll keep an eye out for your response.
Regards,
Angel.
