Nest can't find Wi-Fi

Nest thermostat stopped connecting to Wi-Fi. It has been working for a couple of years without any issue. Restarted the router, reset the thermostat and still no luck. There is no error code

I have another Nest thermostat upstairs that connects just fine.

Seems like I'm facing the same issue as this thread which was closed due to no response - https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Nest-Thermostats/Nest-not-finding-Wi-Fi/m-p/113936/thread-id/...

You using 2.4Ghz or 5?  NEST does NOT join a 5Mghz wifi at all.  IF you recently changed routers, that may be the new issue.

2.4 GHz. No router change. Has been working for the past 3 years. Have another Nest Thermostat in another room that works perfectly fine.

Their Cust Support went through all the steps and told me to get a new one after only 3-4 years of use.

Hey folks,

dickn52, thanks for your help.

2ygore2, I'm sorry to know that your Nest Thermostat is offline. I'm with you on this. Let's figure this out — help me with these questions:

  1. Does the thermostat display show any error codes or messages?
  2. Are you trying to connect to the 2.4 GHz or the 5 GHz network?
  3. How far away is the thermostat from the router? Are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, etc.) near the thermostat?
  4. What's the software version of your thermostat?
  5. Are you controlling your thermostat from the Nest or Google Home app or the thermostat display?
If from the Nest or Google Home app: Is your mobile device on a different Wi-Fi network than the thermostat?

Looking forward for your response.

Thanks,

JT

  1. Does the thermostat display show any error codes or messages? - No
  2. Are you trying to connect to the 2.4 GHz or the 5 GHz network? - 2.4
  3. How far away is the thermostat from the router? Are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, etc.) near the thermostat? - 8-10 ft; No other devices or appliances that can interfere.
  4. What's the software version of your thermostat?
  5. Are you controlling your thermostat from the Nest or Google Home app or the thermostat display? - Can't control from Nest App because the thermostat can't connect to internet. Using the the device to try to connect to the n/w.
If from the Nest or Google Home app: Is your mobile device on a different Wi-Fi network than the thermostat? - All the devices are on the same 2.4 n/w.

Hey 2ygore2,

We appreciate these added details. I have one more step for you to try. Is it possible to try connecting your thermostat to another WiFi network? If you don't have one, try it out on a mobile hotspot.

Keep me posted.

It can't find any network (including my mobile hotspot). Just keeps spinning looking for networks. It's giving W5 error.

Hey there,

Got it — we want to know more about this. What country are you in and where was this bought? Also, what specific Nest thermostat is this?
