Nest compatibility with Ducane AC compressors?

I have been using 2 Nest thermostats on my system for many years.  One of the systems had to replaced 2 years ago (downstairs).  Was replaced without changing the AC compressor.  No issues.

3 weeks ago we replaced the other system with a Ducane 4AC17L48P AC.  The installation crew hooked it up to the Nest and left.  Next day the compressor started making weird clicks like it kept losing power and re-gaining power.  The service company came to correct while I was not home -- and replaced the Nest thermostat with their Honeywell.  Yesterday, I took the time to replace the wires correctly (5 wires).  I ran all the tests -- it worked fine.  Until today, when the clicking / power issues started again.

Are there any known compatibility issues with Ducane?

Wiring look like this photo (all wires from the Honeywell had the same letters except the Honeywell was plugged into "R" vs. "Rc" and when I ran the tests, all Nest tests worked).

I loaded a 2nd image which is my Nest that still has the original AC compressor and runs just fine.

Oddly, it does not have the Cyan wire.

Hi chuckparker69,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community forum. We'd be happy to take a look into this for you. Your HVAC system is compatible with the Nest Thermostat, but we need to check the common wire to see if there’s power to it. Please answer the following:

  1. Are you from North America or Europe?
  2. Do you have a multimeter?
  3. Did you get any kind of error code or error message on the Nest Thermostat display when you heard a clicking sound?
  4. Could you also send us a picture of your control board wiring?

I look forward to your response.

Best,

Renz
