My google nest is off but continues to start the fan for no reason. I’ve tried everything I know to correct but it still runs by itself.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out. I'd like to help. Please remove your Nest Thermostat display from the base and wait for about five minutes. After that, monitor if your fan will still activate or not. If the fan stops activating after 5 minutes of display being out of the base, provide your thermostat power readout and the photo of the wires that are connected to your thermostat.

If the fan continues activating, follow the guide below:

  1. Please shut down the HVAC system at the breaker box. Ensure as closely as possible that all power to your system is off before proceeding.
  2. Remove the wire connected to the G terminal of your thermostat.
    1. Any removed wire should not touch any other wire, especially not a power wire. Leave the wire(s) sticking straight out and separated from any other wires before restoring power.
  3. Leave your thermostat display off the base.
  4. Turn the power back on.
  5. Wait for a maximum of five minutes to see if the fan still turns on and stays on with the display removed.

Let me know how it goes.

I appreciate the input, @HVAC.

Best,

Jenelyn
