Can my Nest gen 3 thermostat replace a round honeywell thermostat used for heating only?

Yes it can you just hook up R and W and if you have a C wire best to hook it up. The Learning Nest is supposed to be ok without a C wire but they work better with one it keeps battery charged.

Thanks and what is the C wire? And what is the allowable voltage for a Nest?

C wire is Common from the 24 volt AC transformer in the furnace.
Its like the Negative on a battery.
R wire is positive
The Learning model usually works without the C wire but the other Nest models all require it to work.

If I connect the nest without c wire will the battery still get charged?

Hello MJS112155,,
In most cases, Google Nest Learning Thermostats can charge their built-in battery using the heating and/or cooling wires. But there are situations where they may need to connect the Nest Power Connector or a common or C wire to consistently deliver power to the thermostat.
Please have a look at this article and let us know if you need more help.
Thanks,
Mark
