Nest gen 3 wireless display clicking

huggies15

Hoping someone can help.

Last week the wireless display unit suddenly stopped showing anything. I followed instructions on manually resetting the unit but still nothing. Removing the display from the base and plugging in via USB-micro to power the display part only I get a message saying connect to the base. Now reconnecting to the base and using the same power cable I get no display or anything.

What I have noticed is the display unit makes a constant clicking noise when plugged into the base but not when plugged into usb micro directly.

I feel like there is an issue with the base part but can't figure out what. Only had the item for around 10 months and really want it ready in time for winter.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Having the same issue. Pushing it for 10 seconds reboots it, I get a G logo then blank again. And it constantly tries to reboot itself. Just spend 30 mins with tech support, they said it’s the battery but it’s not replaceable. Thermostat is past warranty

I was lucky. Spoke to the shop I bought it from. They seemed to think it was fairly common and replaced without any hassle. Fortunately was within the 12 month (11 gone!) So no stress. Replacement installed and working ok now. Hopefully it's not as common as they suggested

Hi Jake Ryan,

So my unit is attached to a UK combi boiler. The display is plugged in via USB from a mains socket, so really not anything to do with the reply. Solved my issue by swapping the head unit at the shop I purchased it from originally. My guess is it died during an update or something.

Anyway, hopefully much longer til it does it again (or less than 12 months for a further replacement).

Hi everyone,

Thanks for being here in the Google Nest Community.

This behavior seems to be caused by a battery not getting enough power from the HVAC unit. One thing to look for is if you have a common (C) wire connected to your Nest Thermostat. We could try checking the main terminal block and look for an unused wire that possibly be a C wire. If you don't have a C wire, we could use this Nest Power Connector to.

Let us know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Regards,

Ryan

I do have a C cable connected to the thermostat. It worked fine for 4 years until it didn’t. I first noticed intermittent failures to run and the G logo after a 4 hour power outage. Then it worked on and off for a week or so. I also tested all of the leads and they Al read 24 volts except for white which read 19 v.
