Nest heat pump system does not recognize emergency heat

JeffHook

I installed a new Nest Learning Thermostat for my heat pump. Followed directions, but Nest thinks my Heat Pump has auxiliary heat, when in fact, according to the HVAC technician, it has emergency heat. I understand that I have to manually control emergency heat on the Nest thermostat. Unfortunately, there is no such setting. The Nest thermostat thinks it's auxiliary heat. The auxiliary heat setting does not activate the emergency heat setting. When I test it manually, the system will turn it on.

Looking at the documentation, looks like I can "control" a wire type setting, but can never get to that setting, as the documentation instructs.

Ideas?

Hi JeffHook,

Thank you for bringing this up here at the Google Nest Community. We'd be happy to take a look into this. You can set up your emergency heating by following the steps below:

Turn emergency heat on

  1. Press the thermostat ring to bring up the Quick View menu.
  2. Go to Settings Nest settings icon and then Equipment.
  3. Select Continue when the wire diagram appears.
  4. Select Continue a second time when you find a summary of your system.
  5. Select Emer. Heat.
  6. Select Emer. Heat again (Nest Learning Thermostat) or Turn On (Nest Thermostat E) to confirm that you’d like to turn emergency heat on.

Your Nest thermostat will use Emergency Heat to reach your set temperature as needed until you manually turn it off.

Let us know if you have questions. We'll be happy to help.

Best,

Renz
