Nest heating when set to cool

KernRied

  • I just installed a Nest learning thermostat. I checked the compatibility checker first to make sure it should work. My old thermostat had R wire. I tried hooking to both Rc and Rh and it heats on cool either way. I have left it on Rc for now.  I looked on a few other posts with similar or the same problem. One of them suggested to change the heat pump settings but I do not get heat pump as an option for my system. The picture shows how I have the wiring.4915E1AC-B728-4CE5-99F8-987E22D04E76.jpeg

You have a Heat Pump System and not a conventional system.

Move the orange wire from W1 to OB, and then factory default the thermostat.

That worked! Thanks very much for your help. It would be nice if Google had better documentation on a website somewhere so people like me would not have to rely people like you for support.
