I have a nest thermostat 3rd gen I think. Currently having an issue with it not switching on the boiler for hot water. If I boost it the heat link clicks but does not switch on the boiler.

I assume your thermostat has been installed for sometime and has been working fine?

When you press the Heat Link button, do you get 3 lights?

Combi or System boiler?

You do not state Combi or System, but try this out if you have a system boiler,...

Make sure you only have one light on the H/L

Go to your display and call for heat, see if the boiler comes on - if Yes, that's sorted

Turn the thermostat back to not calling, then at the display, turn your hot water, do you get a click at the H/L?

Sorry yes It's a pressure system. We have been in the house 3 years and it was already installed so had no previous issues. Either using the app or the thermostat, when I call for heating it works fine. When I call for hot water it clicks but nothing else happens as though the heat link is not activating the boiler

Have you checked your motorised valves are working?

I'm not sure on how to check them fully really.

I have a valve near the hot water tank. If I open the lever and turn the water on it seems to work. When I turn it off the lever moves back again but when I turn it back on again it just buzzes and the lever doesn't move

Looks like that could be the problem!

This has been talked about dozens of times on here, just a quick search and you would have found the answer.

A plumber is the next stage I would imagine.

I have realised moving the lever is just putting it in manual mode which has thrown me again as it could either be the valve not working when in auto mode or it isn't getting the signal to work

Turning by hand is indeed manual.

I would put money on it's the valve....But!!

The only other part you can test is the relays in the Heat Link to prove they are opening. Do you have a simple neon screwdriver or multimeter?

Hi, @Ryan_s,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry to hear you're not getting hot water, especially with the cold weather. I understand how important this is, and I'm happy to help!

To troubleshoot effectively, please help me answer the following questions:

  • Has there been any recent work done on your thermostat(s) or heating system?
  • Were there any power outages?
  • Is there a pattern to the heat activating? Does it happen every day, or at the same time each day?
  • What is the status of the Heat Link's LED light?
  • Does the display show a water droplet inside of a circle?

In the meantime, please confirm the thermostat is set up in the following way:

  • On the thermostat display, select Settings > Equipment > Pro Setup > System boiler > (configure heating) > Hot Water on/off.

If so and the problem persists, please follow these instructions:

  • On the thermostat display, select Settings > Equipment > Pro Setup > Other > (configure heating) > Hot Water on/off.

@Frustrateddddthank you very much for your valuable help.

Feel free to reply if you have any questions.

Best regards,

Ana
