Nest in our Village Hall

I've just taken over as Bookings Secretary for our Village Hall and part of my job will be setting up the schedule for the heating for when the hall is in use. We have Nest thermostats installed in two rooms (which are heated separately) and also a water boiler for use in the kitchen. I've downloaded and installed both the Google Home app and the Nest App onto my phone. This setup is the same as the previous secretary had, albeit on an iPhone, though hers stopped working over the summer (when the heating didn't matter) so now it falls to me. I'm using the same Google account that she used. My Home app can "see" the nest so I can view current temperatures and the like, but the Nest app requires me to "Add product". However, when I try to do that, the thermostat won't show me a code as it is says it is already attached to a different account. This may be the account of the guy who set it up originally. Now, when he did that, he added the Hall's Nest system to his own domestic Nest system so he could control both from the same place. SO my question is how do I reset the system so it can be attached to a new account, and to do so without the risk of disrupting his domestic system? Sorry this is a bit convoluted!

Assuming it's a Nest Learning Thermostat or Nest Thermostat E, follow these steps:

  1. On the thermostat, press it to open the quick view menu and tap the Settings cog.
  2. Scroll to and select Reset, then select Account connection. If you don't see this option, you'll need to select All Settings, which resets the thermostat.
  3. On the Nest app home screen, tap the Settings cog.
  4. Tap Add product. The app will switch to a camera view to scan the thermostat’s QR code.
  5. On the thermostat, press it to open the quick view menu and tap the Settings cog.
  6. Turn the ring to select Nest app and press to open it.
  7. Select QR code. Your thermostat will show you a unique QR code to scan with the app. If it doesn't, tap Continue without scanning in the app and select Get entry key on your thermostat instead.
  8. Follow the remaining steps in the Nest app.

If it's a Nest Thermostat model, which is instead setup in the Google Home app, follow these steps:

  1. On the thermostat, go to Settings > Account > Disconnect. If you don't see this option, you'll need to select Factory Reset, which resets the thermostat.
  2. Follow these steps to set up the thermostat with the Google Home app.

Thats great so thank you. Next time I go up to the Village Hall I'll give it a try. Can you just confirm, though, that it won't affect the domestic system of teh guy who set it up? Thank you.

No not at all, the reset steps you're doing only affect the thermostats involved.
