Nest now Short Cycling

Ginger2Ninja
Community Member

At first use my AC started short cycling. We’ve had this nest for 4 years. The only change is this winter, using heat— my HVAC guys changed it to battery power so the fan could run 12 hours on and 12 hours off. This was to support my new Air Scrubber UV light air purifier system. Is this because I am not missing a c wire? Can I add wires to an existing  set up or just pull them from another location. Hi Ginger2Ninja,

Thank you for posting here in the community. I´m sorry that your Nest thermostat is giving you mini cycles; this could be frustrating, especially if you want to keep power to your system. Help´s here.

Please review the following article about the common or C wire. There are a few recommendations and suggestions for the C wire, and yes, you can rewire and install a C wire to hold the power of your system, or you can purchase a power connector for your Nest thermostat.

Let me know if you need more assistance.

Regards,

Byron

But which cord do I take out? Or do I add a c wire on? The fan needs to be moving for my air scrubber UV purifier

Hi Ginger2Ninja,

Thank you for posting. That is correct. You need to add a C wire to the  Nest thermostat. In order to install, it would be better to get a professional installer who can review the wiring and add it to your Nest thermostat.

Let me know if you need more assistance.

Byron
