Nest - please make the timer more flexible

RachelS
Community Member

With rising energy bills people need to save more and use less unnecessary energy.
The optimum time my water tank needs to fully heat is 47 minutes (don’t ask how I know that!).

Why am forced to choose either half an hour or an hour to heat my water?
please add minute increments to the timer and boost functions.
To have the correct hot water I am wasting energy for 13 minutes a day…this is fast adding up to hundreds of pounds a year I could be saving on my gas bill.
Please, please change the functionality on the timer…this could help many people to save money and waste less energy.
Yours hopefully,

Rachel

Doesn't your water tank have a thermostat fitted to limit the water temperature?

In most systems the water thermostat shuts the water heating down when it reaches temperature so limiting energy wastage.
In your example, you would set 1 hour in the nest, but the tank thermostat would shut down water heating after 47 minutes.

If your system does not have a water thermostat, please let us know more about your system, for example; Y-Plan, S-Plan, etc.

Hi there @RachelS,

Thanks for reaching out and thanks for letting me know. The time is designed this way in order to prevent short term activation that could damage some of the heating or hot water systems. The app cannot be redesigned for one heating or  hot water system only based on customers preferences. Should you want to leave a feedback for the app/feature, you can do so here: https://bit.ly/3ratw86
