Nest says connected to wifi but can't be controlled by the app or website

We have 3 thermostats the other two work and function as they should, able to be controlled from the app to raise/lower temps, adjust settings, etc.  However, the thermostat on our main level says its connected to wifi but whatever settings/schedules changed on the app (or website) do not communicate with the device.  The only way to adjust temps is manually on the device.  Any suggestions to get the device to communicate with the app?

Hi @mdthack,

First I would like to thank you for posting in our community page, on the other hand I apologize for the inconvenience that you are having with your Thermostat. Let me tell you some troubleshooting steps that you can try to fix the problem.

1. Restart the Nest Thermostat:

  • Begin with a simple restart. Press and hold the display (where the temperature is shown) for about 5 seconds until the screen goes blank. Then, wait for it to reboot and reconnect to Wi-Fi.

2. Restart Your Phone/Computer and Wi-Fi Router:

  • A quick restart of your phone or computer (whichever device you use the Nest app on) and your Wi-Fi router can sometimes resolve temporary glitches in communication. Turn them off for about 30 seconds, then power them back on and wait for them to fully boot up.

3. Check Wi-Fi Signal Strength:

  • Make sure your Nest thermostat has a strong and stable Wi-Fi signal. A weak connection can cause communication issues with the app. You can check the signal strength in the Nest app settings for the thermostat.

4. Verify Network Settings:

  • Ensure the Wi-Fi network your Nest thermostat is connected to is the same one your phone/computer uses to access the Nest app. Double-check the network name (SSID) and password for any typos.

5. Update Nest App and Thermostat Software:

  • Outdated software can sometimes cause compatibility issues. Check for and install any available updates for both the Nest app and the Nest thermostat itself. Updates often include bug fixes and performance improvements.

6. Reinstall the Nest App:

  • If the issue persists, try reinstalling the Nest app on your phone or computer. This can sometimes clear out temporary app data that might be causing problems.

If for some reason you still have the same issue don't hesitate to let us know.

Regards,

Mario.
