Nest thermostat Auxiliary heat

Ilj1314

I have a nest learning thermostat with a heat pump outside and a furnace inside.  I’m not able to get the AUX heat to come on when it is below a certain temperature outside. I have tried to change the settings and it only comes on when it is set 10 over what the current indoor temperature is. I have turned on the nest sense heat pump balance to max comfort. The Nest sense heat pump balance was turned off and the auxiliary heat lockout was set to 40. It still doesn’t turn on either was when it is just a few degrees to warm up. It is currently 0 outside and it is taking my heat pump 25 mins to warm the house 1 degree. I have called and spoke to support and their suggestion was to take the wire out of the heat pump and leave it until I want to use it again.

I have a similar issue. In the app setting under equipment change it to use alt heat always.

I unfortunately do not have that as an option.

open the nest app and lick your home thermostat icon that shows the temp. then click the gear icon on the top right. scroll down to equipment, then the first option should be dual fuel. click it and drag it all the way to the right.

That is not what mine says. It has doesn’t have any setting to change under equipment. I don’t think mine is dual fuel either.

go to your nest thermostat and go to setting then equipment, see if you see dual fuel there. You should have dual fuel cause you have the same setup as me. Then change it there to always.

I don’t have the setting the other guy was talking about. I had to take the wire out of o/b and move the aux wire to w1. I never could get the settings to change it automatically.
