Nest thermostat E does not turn on

Hi all,

I have recently bought a Nest Thermostat E. When I've started with the installation process I got stuck on the first and most easy step, connect the thermostat to the power electricity using the power adapter that cames with it. The house icon does not appear so I guess that the thermostat is broken or I am missing something...

Is there any button to switch the thermostat on or it is broken and I will need a new one / replacement?

Thank you so much in advance

I went through this yesterday. Turns out you can remove the Thermostat E from the base and charge it directly using a mini USB cable and charger. This charges the device much, much faster. Like it almost immediately turns on with the Nest Logo. Leave it charging for 30mins before returning it to the stand.

IMO, the stand probably charges much more slowly by design because intention is probably that it is plugged in 24/7 so you only really need to maintain the battery level.

To help reassure you that it can be separated. I seperately mine and took a picture of it for you.

My model is different and I can't separate the thermostat from its base. The USB wire is directly attached to the device as same as its base.

This is my model. It works without battery like other models seem to work.

I tried to keep the device switched on for several minutes but the house icon never appears. Could be the display damaged?

My thermostat is completely new.

Thanks!

Yea my model is the UK model too, just pull it from the ring. It comes off, I didn't know until I searched for the same problem too. 👍

Thank you for your answer but I am gonna need more help.

When you say "pull it from the ring", are you referring to the Heat Link E? The gray device with a button on the center that is like a speaker that work using batteries.

The thermostat, the device with the screen, is fully attached to its base and I do not see the way to do nothing with it. I can click the display, spin the ring and plugged in to the power adapter, nothing else.

Sorry but I am a bit loss. Watching the YouTube video again it should switch on using the power adapter and plugged in to the electricity.

Do you have the link that helped you in the past?

Thank you in advance again.

Thank you very much for your help. In my case the battery was flat and the thermostat needed 90 minutes to fully recharge. After that time I was able to finish the configuration and everything works as expected.

This process should be included in the guide that comes inside the box.

Glad I could help. I think the devices can't switch off so all come completely drained. They really should put a note or guide about that!

Hello there!

I'm glad to hear that your issue is sorted. Indeed, the thermostat can be removed from the base. Also, not all thermostats need to be charged before you use them. This may happen when the battery drains after staying in the warehouse for a longer period of time. For the moment I'll close this thread. If anything comes up, feel free to reach back.

Many thanks, Oana.
