Nest thermostat Wi-Fi issues

I have a nest thermostat with a mirror on it cannot get it to connect to my cell phone so I can control it other places I tried to use a hotspot on my phone but will not connect I do not have a router or modem is this the reason why I can’t connect

A Nest thermostat is not configured to connect to a phone like pairing a bluetooth speaker.  Instead It is configured  once for wi-fi to connect to your account. Once the account is established you can login to that account from any device and manage the Nest devices that have been configured. 

The expectation is that the thermostat has a Wi-Fi router to connect to.  While Nest thermostats will work without Wi-Fi, it is very limited. Connecting to a hotspot on your phone is still limited because as soon as you leave the building, the thermostat no longer has Wi-Fi.

I cannot connect the nest with a hotspot on my phone and no one from nest  can help , Is it possible to connect my Nest with my cell phone with a hotspot

@Talktalkk1234, Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with connecting your Nest Thermostat. Like what sporfrog mentioned, we don't recommend connecting the Nest Thermostat to a hotspot as this type of connection is limited. But since it's the only connection available in your case, you could try using a different phone as a hotspot, and use your phone as the setup device.
