I see similar questions being asked, never a satisfactory solution. My building is multi-use. Music store and electronics repair shop downstairs, my residence upstairs. I've got a nest thermostat in the music store that also heats the repair shop. I'll put a second nest thermostat upstairs if I can resolve this (separate furnace).
I'm using the thermostat's motion sensing. Right now, if I'm in the store, no problem. If I go back and work in the electronics shop, the thermostat sees no motion. The heat turns down. I need a way for the thermostat to sense motion in the back room and keep the heat on. That would require linking a second motion sensor in the shop. If I'm not in the store or shop, I want the heat to turn down.
I cannot just use the presence of my phone, I expect it would be detected after hours when I'm up in the residence and keep the heat on.
Do I need to install another nest thermostat back in the electronic shop in parallel with the one up front so motion sensing in either one can turn on the furnace?

Hey there, Martyh53115!
It seems like you've got a bit of a heating puzzle on your hands with that music store and electronics haven downstairs. Since there are multiple areas you want the thermostat to consider when adjusting the temperature
Let's explore some possible fixes:
While Nest Temperature Sensors don't have motion sensors, placing one in the repair shop allows the Nest Thermostat to consider the temperature there, as long as there's occasional movement in either area.
A new thermostat might be an option if you have a zoned HVAC system (separate temperature control for different areas) and want independent control over each area's temperature.
You could also consider checking this article about the Nest thermostat temperature schedules. If you stay in the shop working at specific times of the day, you can program the thermostat to keep the thermostat at a consistent temperature while you're working.
Make sure to let me know how things go.
Regards,
Angel
