Nest thermostat & Motion detection

I’ve had a nest thermostat for 2+ years; whenever I’ve walked past it, or reached towards it to adjust it, the screen has lighted up - demonstrating Motion detection.

A couple of months ago it suddenly stopped. While I can’t be sure that it isn’t detection Motion, it seems doubtful. That would seem to indicate that the only way it’s detecting that someone is home, is by cellphone proximity?

 I’ve looked over settings to no avail… am I missing something? Is Nest not functioning? Thanks for any guidance!

Sorry to hear about the issues with your thermostat, I know these can be confusing, but I'm happy to hop in here. 

Just wanted to see what troubleshooting steps we have taken first off, to try and fix the issue or find out what the issue might be. 

I was also able to find a great article that might help you with your thermostat light problems.
