Not long had our Nest thermostat and up until now very pleased with it, however we've just returned from a few days away to find the heating has been on all the time we were away (I didn't think to check the app while on holiday).
After leaving the house for our break, I checked that the thermostat had gone into Away mode and thought that would be it until I manually turned it on again or until we walked back into the house.
What should I have done?
Appreciate any tips on this, thanks 👍

Hi CathG,
Just my observation...
What I have noticed is that when we go away, presence sensing and the Away routine work exactly as expected. The Away routine kicks in and the thermostat is set to Eco mode lowering the temp. Hooray! However, I too will find that sometimes after several days the thermostat is heating per the schedule again even though we are still away. You can look at history, filtered for the thermostat, to check when it raised the temp. Just a guess but I believe this occurs after the thermostat receives an update. I suspect it reboots or restarts and in so doing, it needs the Away routine to run again. I am still working out the cause.
A few things I intend to try next when I have a chance.
If you happen to travel again or plan to be away for a while try one and let us know the results!

I agree with sporfrog's first suggestion, to use Eco mode if you want to ensure that the Nest stays at the (low) temperature you want. I was getting inconsistent results with Home/Away Assist so I just don't use it.
