Nest thermostat compatibility

Tried the compatibility checker, but it wasn't sure. Question is, is my thermostat compatible with Nest with these wires:

RH, Y, G, W/E

Hi Bierma,

A picture of the wiring for your existing thermostat would help.

Probably the W/E is equivalent to W...probaby.  When using the Compatibility Checker enter W and you will find a compatible model.

Per your list of wires, it appears there is not a C (common) wire, which may be required in some cases. Usually I recommend planning for one if possible.

Here are some options:

  1. If there is a free wire not used - say blue - connect it to C or Common at both the HVAC unit and the Nest thermostat
  2. If there are no free unused wires, consider the Nest Power Connector.
  3. In some cases running a new thermostat cable with a few extras wires so that one can be used as C (common) is also an option.

You may not need C, but is it good to plan for it just in case.
