Just bought a new Nest thermostat. During installation, I noticed there was no clear battery tab on the end of either AAA battery. The display didn't light up, so I figured the factory-installed batteries had discharged. I put in new batteries, but still no display on the screen. And, of course, no display when I attached the thermostat to the base, and the app couldn't connect to the thermostat. Is this thermostat a dud, or am I missing something?
