Nest thermostat does not turn on compressor

Hi, I'm having trouble getting the cooling to work, the fan turns on but the air isn't cold. The old thermostat works just fine. I tried setting the nest to the heat pump in case that might work but it does not.

note: there is an unused brown wire

I found that the solution my Installer gave me worked after I did one additional thing.  I saw a post that had a solution similar to what my Tech said. Tech told me to turn nest off from the app or the wall then turn back on but put in echo mode. The first times it did nothing until I read a post here that said the same thing but also put Eco mode low as possible. I lowered echo to 70-76 and the system is working great since then!

Turns out I do have a heat pump but the tech couldn't get the Nest thermostat doesn't work. He said the nest learning thermostat might be work, but I'm not going to try that as I spend too much time and money on this. I'm just going to use the old thermostat and consider this close.

That didn't work, but thank you for the suggestion!

Hey there Pete7,

Just to double-check, are you using a conventional, forced air HVAC system? If so, are you able to verify if both the fan and heating still function properly? If both work, you may be able to try wire swapping to see if another terminal can activate the compressor. However, before you do so, I'd recommend that you reach out to Nest Support first, just so they can assist you in doing so in real time.

I hope that helps, let me know if you had any more questions or concerns.

Best regards,

Jeran

Hi Jeran, thank you for the reply. I have tested the heating and that does not work either. This system is a conventional forced air system although I'm not sure if heating is gas or electric.

I think I will hire a recommended installer from Google/Nest.

 Edit: the fan does work

Hiya there Pete7,

No problem at all! I think it may be wise to have a Nest Pro come look at it in this case, since neither the heating nor cooling are working. I'll leave the thread open if you have any more questions, or if you want to update the thread to see what the solution was.

Best regards,

Jeran

Thanks Jake, I have no further questions so far. The OnTech installer will be coming this Sat (8/20/22) and I'll update the result here.
