Nest thermostat for controlling fan coil airconditioner in a room

I am installing air conditioning in a number of rooms in my home and also rewiring and replastering the walls as part of the project. There will be a Samsung VRF AM100KXMDGH/EU - 28Kw heat pump on the roof. It will feed concealed fan coil internal units in the rooms, for example Samsung AM056ANMPKH/EU - 5.6K. The internal units may also be used to provide heat boosts in the rooms for short periods in winter though there will be hydronic underfloor heating in each room controlled by a separate thermostat connected to the UFH system central manifold. I want separate thermostats in each room for the UFH and the Samsung systems as I don't want to change the UFH temperature when I need to use the Samsung unit to boost the temperature for a short period, say 30 minutes.

Questions:

1. Is there a NEST thermostat suitable for connecting to the Samsung internal unit to control the  room temperature? Which model would you recommend?

2. I understand the NEST device can be controlled by Alexa (voice or app) so long as there is a device like Alexa Show in the room. Is that correct?

3. Where can I obtain installation details to give to my HVAC installer?

Hello Sab26,

I know it has been a while, but I wanted to ensure that everything was covered here.

It sounds like you have quite an extensive and exciting project underway for your home. Installing air conditioning alongside rewiring and replastering is a significant endeavor, but it's sure to make your living spaces much more comfortable and efficient.

Regarding your questions:

  1. The Nest Thermostats can indeed be a great addition to your setup, offering smart control over your indoor climate. While I'm not aware of a specific Nest Thermostat model designed explicitly for Samsung internal units, you might want to explore the compatibility options with the Samsung system or consult with your HVAC installer.
  2. The Nest devices, including thermostats, can be integrated with Alexa for voice control. This integration allows you to adjust settings using voice commands or through the Alexa app, provided there's a compatible Alexa-enabled device in the room. Make sure to set up the necessary connections and configurations within both the Nest and Alexa ecosystems for seamless operation.
  3. For detailed installation instructions specific to your HVAC setup, your HVAC installer should have access to installation guides and specifications relevant to the equipment they'll be working with. They can also provide valuable insight and expertise throughout the installation process.
