Nest thermostat heating when set for cooling

I just replaced my Honeywell non-programable unit with a Nest Learning unit.  I followed all the installation instructions and took pictures.  It calls for heat no matter which mode the thermostat is set in.  When I install the old unit, it works fine.

Had the same issue. Unplug the wire that is labeled as heat. If the heat doesn’t come back on while running the AC it is a thermostat issue. Return it and get a replacement

@Cb10 , the problem is you have a heat pump and you not having your thermostat set up as a Heatpump you set it up as a conventional gas heater. The orange wire that you have in W1 is actually supposed to be in OB. Then you need to define the heat pump mode.  You have either an O model or B model.  Now B models are air conditioners by default and need to energize the OB wire to activate Heating. The O model energizes the OB wire to get cooling.  When you move the wire to OB, the Nest display will see the change.  You will perform a Cooling or a Heating test and see if your system is set correctly. For cooling test, the outdoor temp needs to be 75°F or higher. The Nest defaults to O models since about 80% of the heat pumps sold are O models.  If your test is not working, cooling blows hot air or heating blows cold air, you need to change the mode.  To do that go to SETTINGS > EQUIPMENT > CONTINUE > CONTINUE > HEAT PUMP.  Then see which has the check mark, O or B, and change to the other. Then run your test again.
