Nest thermostat not heating

At random parts of the day and every night, my heater goes from working perfectly to not at all. Currently, my house is 6 degrees but set at 73. I have lived in this home for exactly one year and the system was installed/updated 11 months ago.

this happened last winter as well and the only thing I can do is the good old fashioned, “turn it off and back on again” method. It’s getting really tiring to set an alarm for 03:30 just to turn it off and on again so we don’t wake up to a freezing cold house.

I also receive frequent emails saying that the house “should have warmed to ‘x’ degrees but instead dropped ‘x’ degrees”. Someone please give me some steps for what to do to address this issue.

Heating system is gas operated.

Have the same issue! All night husband was up. Having to turn the temp down then back up. N it will not bring it to temp. I’ve been deep diving into threads n it seems to have been an issue with nest since 2020! We have reset numerous times. Changed settings. N the only time it really happens is at night. The temps are supposed to be below 0 this week n we are about to just install a basic cheap one to make sure are children and pipes don’t freeze these next couple nights.

I have been diving into threads as well. I consider myself to be a YouTube professional, but I can’t find anything specific to the issue. My “glug” noise is likely due to an incorrect angle on the condensation pipe attached to my furnace, but I can’t seem to find a reason why the middle of the night is the only time the furnace doesn’t work properly.

Correction: The house was 60 degrees.
Update: Due to some kind of issue and constant attempts to start, my furnace capacitor and blower motor now require replacement. Awesome. 10/10 do not recommend the Nest system! It does not work in conjunction with furnaces well and causes them to misfire and “burn out”.

Hello folks,

I know it has been a while, but I wanted to ensure that everything was covered here. I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your Nest Thermostats not heating properly. Let's sort this out.

  1. Make sure that your thermostat is properly connected to Wi-Fi. A stable connection is essential for the thermostat to receive updates and function correctly.
  2. Verify that your thermostat is receiving a consistent power supply. If the power source is intermittent, it can lead to disruptions in heating. Check the wiring and connections to ensure everything is secure.
  3. Check for any wiring reports or message codes in the settings that could give us a hint as to what might be the possible cause.
Inspect the wiring of the thermostat to make sure it's properly installed. Loose or incorrectly connected wires can cause disruptions in the heating system.
  4. Experiment with different settings on your thermostat. Try adjusting the temperature range, scheduling, and other relevant parameters to see if it makes a difference.
  5. While it may seem basic, power cycling the thermostat and heating system can often resolve temporary glitches. Restart your thermostat, and if possible, shut off the power to your heating system for a few minutes before turning it back on.

Let us know how it goes.

Best regards,
Mark
