Nest thermostat on even though it's away

Bacon
Community Member

My Nest home app says away, but my thermostat is still on and heating my home burning money.

I tried using Google presence in the nest protect smoke detectors but I turned all of that off because it wasn't turning the system on or off or controlling the home away function.

I'm getting ready to rip out all of the nest products in my home because Google seems to have abandoned them.

I agree, based on my own and others' experiences, that Home/Away Assist may not work satisfactorily.  I don't use it.  I have the Nest programmed to my usual schedule, and if I'm going to be out of the house for an unusually long time I manually turn Eco mode on (and turn it off when I'm on my way back).  In other words, I use the Nest like a not-smart programmable thermostat  --  except that with the wifi connectivity I can control it remotely from the road.

(Sorry if I misunderstood your question.  If you're not using Home/Away Assist and your heat is coming on even when the schedule or Eco mode calls for a temperature lower than your current room temperature, then of course the problem is somewhere else.  It's also true that if you bought the Nest specifically for its smart features, then it's a disappointment to have to use it as a not-smart thermostat.)

Hi Bacon,

Thanks for reaching out and we're sorry to hear about what's happening.

I'd like to jump in here and try additional steps to help you further. Could you go to settings > equipment and then select the right heat source and type then test your equipment.

Let me know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Thanks for your help, CBFox.

Best regards,

Ryan
