Nest thermostat turns off ECO and resumes HOME routine when in AWAY mode

I have AWAY mode set to run ECO on my 2 nest non-learning thermostats.  Randomly, the thermostats (usually one, but sometimes the other) will forget that it is in away mode and start running the HOME routine again, wasting fuel.

Here's what I have done so far:
- Presence is turned OFF
- AWAY is programmed to run ECO
- I am the ONLY user on my account
- I am using C-Wire from the furnace - Thermostats report these specs from my C wire:
    - Vin: 37 V
    - lin: 385
    - PS: C-385
- I have tried deleting the thermostat, factory resetting it and re-adding it
- I have tried creating a new room and adding it there

Any suggestions?  I have seen others complain with no responses... Does the AWAY feature simply not work and Google burying it?
