Nest thermostat turns on my AC on it’s own even when I manually turn it off

I have a gen 2 nest thermostat and it turns on my AC unit on its own even when I turn it off manually. When I put it on “cool” and back to “off” it turns off briefly and turns on again. When the home reaches the set temperature, the AC would turn off briefly and turn back on again. I have turned off every automated future and even tried factory resetting the thermostat. The only way to turn off the AC is to unplug the thermostat from the wall.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Hello @Jhonny114,

Thanks for posting in the community.
I understand your frustration with the Nest thermostat turning on the AC unit on its own. It can be quite disruptive. I appreciate your effort in trying to fix it on your own.

To provide tailored assistance, please share the following information:

  • Specify the make and model of your HVAC system, including the furnace, air conditioner, and heat pump.
  • Could you share a photo of the wiring on your thermostat?
  • Do you have any other thermostats? If so, what's the model?
  • Do you see an error code on the display?
  • What steps have you tried?

In the meantime, you can try the following steps:

  1. Check Thermostat Settings: Verify that the thermostat is set to the correct mode (cool) and the target temperature is appropriate.
  2. Restart Devices: Power cycle your Nest thermostat, router, and HVAC system.

Please keep me posted. Thank you.

Regards,
Jorge
