Nest thermostat won’t connect to wifi

Scottdiezz

My nest thermostat has been working perfectly since being installed about a year ago. Just yesterday I noticed it was offline and I’ve done everything to get it back but nothing has worked. I’m getting an M15 error. It’s not even recognizing any WiFi at all. Not sure what else to do.

thanks

To fix this issue, complete these directions on your thermostat:
Choose Reset Device. The thermostat will restart and restart setup in the app.

The difference between stumbling blocks and stepping stones is how you use them.

I did that, and it doesn’t work. I’m going to look into the warranty and try to get a new one

I ended up just buying a new thermostat. I didn’t have time to deal with finding the warranty and waiting for a new one. Once the new thermostat arrived, I installed it and had no problem connecting to the WiFi.

Hello Ttime257,

I’m sorry for the trouble this has caused you. Let me help you out. Just a few questions: Are you getting any error messages when you try to connect to your WiFi? Have you tried doing a factory reset on your Nest thermostat? If not, here is a link on how to restart or reset a Nest thermostat.

I look forward to your response.

Best,

Edmond

Tried it all. spins, spins, spins…

Same thing with me. I tried everything and nothing worked. Save yourself a headache and buy another one.

Hi everyone,

@Scottdiezz and @Ttime257, thanks for taking the time to troubleshoot your Nest Thermostat. I'd like to know more about it. A few questions: what type of Nest Thermostat do you have? In what country are you located? Do you see any messages or codes on your thermostat?

If you have the Nest Learning Thermostat or Nest Thermostat E, please go to your thermostat's Quick View menu > Turn the ring and highlight the gear icon for settings > Check for the message or code displayed on the screen

I appreciate the input, Edmond.

Kind regards,

Jenelyn

I am also having the same issue. I got error code w2. Ended up doing a reboot as well as a factory reset, but no luck, the thermostat will not connect to Wi-Fi. Sometimes it showed a list of networks but most of the time I didn't. Sounds like the solution is buying a new one from the rest of the replies kin this thread....

Hi Godabiola,

Yikes! Let's get this sorted out. Parental controls or security settings on the router configures the thermostat not to connect to the Wi-Fi network. In this case, I am referring you to reach out to your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or router manufacturer’s website for information on how to adjust parental controls and security settings because it varies between different routers, and some ISPs have special controls for these settings.

Here are the most important recommended Wi-Fi network and router settings for use with Nest products. For more details, refer to the sections below.

  • Enable 802.11 b/g/n if you have an 802.11 ac router.
  • Set your Wi-Fi router's DHCP lease time to at least 2 hours.
  • Turn on your router's Power Save Mode (PSM), if you have a Nest thermostat.
  • Enable IPv6, if you have a Nest Protect.
  • On your Wi-Fi router, turn on multicast, if you're adding additional Nest devices.

If you've confirmed these settings, and are still having the same situation, let us know.

Best regards,

Zoe
