Nest thermostat won’t hold charge and is reading temperature wrong

I have had my Nest thermostat since 2022 and have had zero issues. This week the nest keeps showing that the battery is low and must turn off to charge. Regardless of turning off it doesn’t charge and I’ve also tried connecting it to a USB-C charger. We bought a new battery and installed it and now the heat is reading much higher than the actual temperature. There is no sunlight on the device, no heat vent nearby, or anything near it that could cause the temperature difference. Is our nest broken or how can we fix this?

Hi @mollyd89!

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I am sorry that your Nest thermostat won't hold the charge and is reading the temperature wrong, but no need to worry; help is here. We appreciate all of your previous troubleshooting efforts. I need to know a few things about your thermostat in order to provide you with a better resolution.

  • What Nest thermostat model do you have? For your reference, you can check out this article on how to tell which Nest thermostat you have.
  • What is the make and model of your HVAC equipment?
  • How long did you charge the thermostat with a USB cable?
  • Do you see a blinking LED light? If so, is it red or green?
  • Is the thermostat's display seated properly?

I'll be waiting for your response; any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Best regards,

Jeremy.
