Nest thermostat

I bought a home with this thermostat, and will travel cross country to move in.  The seller took this picture after putting batteries in, but the error message is still there and I have no way of knowing if it is even working.  I'm wondering if it will even function, how to tell what nest thermostat I have and if I can even program it to my android when I get there.  I'm also wondering if someone does know which thermostat this is, where I could get online instructions to use it.  Would it be safer to just have Lowes install another thermostat, or will I be able to use the thermostat face to get to the desired heat in the home and not use wifi for now.  When the inspector was out, he said the house was warm and the thermostat appeared to be working.  He heard the furnace turn over twice while he was there.  He's concerned that while moving out, the seller may have bumped it and rendered it unusable.  The inspector also believes the seller may have installed it himself and did it incorrectly.

Taking a closer look at the error code, I am showing that the device may need a C wire/Nest power connector installed. Here is an article with more details on the error code you are seeing.
