Recently moved into a new house that already has nest thermostat installed but previous owners do not remember password. Any way to factory reset the device manually?

Hi @Edgar

To manually restart the Nest thermostat:
  1. Press your thermostat ring and hold it down until the screen turns off (about 10 seconds). Then let go of the ring.
  2. Press and release the ring to turn it back on and complete the restart process. The Nest logo will appear when it begins to start up.

Hello,

Yes I saw the response and tried that but unfortunately after it restarted it was still locked with the previous owners PIN lock. Is there any other way to get that unlocked?

Hey there,

Apologies that it is still giving you issues.

Unfortunately, the only way of getting this fixed is to Factory Reset the thermostat.

I would suggest reviewing that article to make sure that you're going through the right steps.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Best regards,

Hello Jake,

Thanks for the reply. I tried getting into the settings through the quick view menu but was prompted to enter the previous owners PIN which I do not have nor can I get. If there is any other way to factory reset it that would be great.

Hey Edgar,

Sorry to hear you are still having trouble. I would be more than happy to assist you in resetting the device. Do you mind me asking, are you able to plug the device into a computer? Once done, can you see a technicalinfo.PLIST file? Please let me know if you are seeing that file or not, as I want to ensure you are good to go.

Best regards,

Jake
