Nest thermostats disconnecting alternately (H71)

Hi - have started having the most bizarre set of issues with our Nest setup.

We have had this installation for years and it's been working just fine. Recently, two of our three Nest thermostats are alternately disconnecting from the Heatlink (H71 errror code). When I put the Heatlink in pairing mode (blue flashing light), and then reboot the Nest, I can get it to reconnect.

BUT - then the other one disconnects!! Follow the same process, get it back online..and then the first one disconnects. The 3rd Nest in the house is working just fine, no issues. They are not close to each other, and regardless have been working seamlessly for years.

I'm at wit's end, what do I do? I have done this cycle over 10 times so far. Been fine for years. They work fine when they are connected to the Heatlink.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi wolvrinUK,

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

I understand that two of your three Nest Thermostats are alternately losing connection to the Heat Link, displaying an H71 error. I can see how disconcerting it is to be stuck in a loop where you fix one thermostat only to have the other one fail. But don't worry, let's dig into this and find a permanent solution so you don't have to keep repeating that cycle.

To get started, please provide some more information by answering these questions:

  • What Nest Thermostat model devices do you have? For your reference, you can check out this article on how to tell which Nest thermostat you have.
  • How's the Heat Link being powered when you try to pair it?
  • What's the color of your Heat Link's light?
  • Did you try to take the Heat Link out of Manual Mode?
  • When were the thermostat devices installed?
  • Are they a replacement thermostat display?
  • Did the issue begin after a power cut or recent work on the heating system? If yes, were the thermostat devices moved to a new location during maintenance?
  • What's the distance between the Heat Link and the failing thermostat devices? Are the Heat Link and display on the same floor?

Once you have this information, please let me know.

Best regards,

Virna
