Nest with BMPlus3000 with two zone dampers

Hi,

I have a house I bought. Long story short the last people took the thermostats and left wires only so I am hooking up some nests.

This runs a forced hot and cold air oil system. The main panel is a bmplus3000 and has multiple dampers making it a 2 zone system.

a few questions about how they have the panel wired. You can see zone 2 doesn’t have a green connected, I’m confused by that because how would zone 2 run the fan?
Also zone 1 Tstat has blue in the red?
I plan to move the blue to common to power the nest and hook the blue for zone 2 as well.

on the nest does this seem to be a typical W, R, G, Y, B setup? Any help would be great

Hi Jaytech,

Thanks for posting here in the Community forum and for showing interest in our Nest Thermostats. From what you've shared, it seems that you are trying to install Nest Thermostats in a home that has a forced hot and cold air oil system with a two-zone configuration controlled by a BMPlus3000 panel. Following up on your inquiries, here are some recommendations:

  1. The previous setup for Zone 2 may not have required a connection to the green wire, which controls the fan. In some systems, the fan may be controlled by the furnace directly. However, it's important to verify this information with a professional HVAC technician or consult the documentation for your specific system to ensure proper wiring.
  2. The Zone 1 thermostat's red terminal is unusually connected to the blue wire, which is typically the power supply wire, and the blue wire (C), the common wire. It's recommended to consult the documentation for your specific thermostat model or contact the manufacturer's support to confirm the correct wiring configuration.

Regarding the Nest Thermostat wiring, a typical setup for a forced air system with a Nest Thermostat would be as follows:

  • W (White): Controls the heating system (usually the furnace or heat pump).
  • R (Red): Power supply wire.
  • G (Green): Controls the fan.
  • Y (Yellow): Controls the cooling system (usually the air conditioner or heat pump).
  • C (Blue or Common): Provides power to the thermostat.

Also, could you send us a photo of your current thermostat wiring configuration so we can take a closer look?

Keep us posted. We're happy to help.

Best,

Zoe
