New Nest Thermostat + Heat n' Glo Fireplace

I added a 24-volt adapter to my fireplace setup to give the thermostat power, leaving me with R, W, and two wires from the adapter. The recommendation I received was to connect W to W, one of the wires from the adapter to C, and the other wire from the adapter and R *twisted together* to R.

This setup works, but I've noticed that once the thermostat cycles off, it can take a very long time to get it back on. Is this long wait time normal, or is this a result of this setup? As found online, but this isn't mine:

Hi jzacuto,

Yikes! Let's see what's going on. Please send us a photo of your previous thermostat wiring configuration and how you exactly connected the wires to the Nest Thermostat 2020's base so we can take a closer look. Also, take note that Nest Thermostat's terminal could only have one (1) wire connected to it. An adapter can only be installed through your furnace control board, and we only recommend installing the Nest Power Connector to deliver consistent power from your HVAC to the Nest Thermostat.

I'll look forward to your response.

Best,

Zoe
