I installed a Nest Learning Thermostat this morning. By the time I finished installing it, the temp in the house was 75 degrees. I set the thermostat to 70 and it said it would take 1.5 hours to reach that temp. After a while I noticed that it didn't feel any cooler and when I checked the temp it was 78. A bit later it was 80 and showing that it would take 2+ hours to reach temperature. I online chatted with support who only wanted to make sure that I had the thermostat wired correctly and did not offer any help with how to force the unit to cool faster. Eventually they told me to return the unit because it wasn't functioning properly. I exchanged it and installed a new one and the same thing is happening. Is it normal for a new thermostat to cool so slowly that it can't keep up with the summer temperature outside? Is there any way to force the thermostat to cool faster? At this point my house has been 80 degrees for several hours while the ac blows cold air very gently. My old thermostat was much more effective at cooling.

I wish I had the answer but, instead, I have the same problem.  We keep lowering the temp on the Nest…but a few hours later the temperature is higher than when we first reset it. Infuriating.
I love the concept of the Nest but its application has been frustrating. Would be so grateful to whoever can help us get it working properly!

I chatted with another support rep who finally told me that it sounds like the thermostat isn’t getting power like it should and that I’ll need to call an hvac tech or best pro. I have reinstalled my old thermostat and now I need to decide if I really want this smart thermostat or not. I’m so disappointed and wasted most of a day dealing with it.

Post a picture of the original thermostat wiring.
Thermostats are just fancy on/off switches and don't control how fast a system heats or cools.

Hi folks,
@mindycullins, thanks for reaching out, and I'm sorry to hear about the situation. Could you please provide the information asked above? It will help us to move forward.
@GG18, when was the last time your thermostat connected to Wi-Fi? And is your thermostat on Software version 1.0–6? You can check for its software version by going to its Settings, then looking for Version.
I'll look forward to your responses.
Thanks for your help, @Patrick_Caezza.
Best,
Zoe

Thank you all for the amazing feedback and ideas. I’m the end the Nest was working fine which let me to call the HVAC technician who found a leak in the system from which all the coolant had evaporated. So, ultimately, I falsely accuse the Nest. It actually worked great and, now that I know, basically alerted me to the problem.
Thank you all again!
