New house with Nest and I can't get it to link with the Heat Link

Hello

I've just moved into a new house that has a Nest thermostat (I think learning thermostat 3rd gen) with a heat link. The previous owner says they didn't reset anything, they just turned the internet off when they went. I've had new internet installed but can't for the life of me get the thermostat to link to the heat link.

I've held down the thermostat for 10+ seconds multiple times and keep getting back to the equipment bit where it can't connect, I've reset the heat link multiple times often in quick succession. I've tried adding it to the app but can't get the code to be able to add it (it gets to equipment then H71 error and I can't get out of that to get to the settings).

Any suggestions?

Thanks

My first suggestion is have you searched on this forum?

Holding the Heat Link button for 10 seconds restarts the H/L and does not reset it!

H71 is a standard error for a connection issue.

Forget the app, and get the display paired first, otherwise you will not get anywhere.

Look in Technical - Heat Link, what numbers do you see under Heat Link, you should see a 6 digit code?

I've searched the forum and feel like I have tried everything that anyone has suggested.

How do I reset the heat link then?

Try looking under replies I have done, I have covered this dozens of times!

Hi ,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry to hear that your Nest Learning Thermostat is unable to pair with the Heat Link. I will do my best to help you right now.

Appreciate you for taking the time to complete all of the troubleshooting procedures. I found these steps in order to isolate the H71 issue code that you have.

Heat Link installation and pairing will be different depending on which Nest thermostat you have

  • Reset the Heat Link to factory defaults
  • Normally, Heat Link should automatically reconnect to your Nest thermostat after you reset it to factory defaults. Wait a few moments and then check your thermostat to confirm.
  • If your thermostat asks for a pairing code, check the bottom of Heat Link for the 6-character code.

For the error code H71

  • Remove heat llink in the thermostat.
  • Restart the Heat Link
  • Hold down the Heat Link’s button until its light turns off. It should take about 20 seconds.
  • Release the button and wait for your Heat Link to restart.
  • The status light will turn green if it re-connects to your thermostat.
  • Move your thermostat and test the connection
  • Reset the Heat Link to defaults

Feel free to keep us posted if you have more questions.

Regards,

Gabriela
