Have the Nest for two years AND NO PROBLEMS (ACTUALLY HAVE TWO IN OUR HOUSE). All of sudden THE ECO COMES ON AND THEN WE HAVE no Cool Mode...only heat! I shut off the Eco mode AGAIn and it pops up even with it shut off. We re-started, updated software, read this community, moved the Y1 wire and all of sudden...cool mode back on.. But, now it says Stage 2 cooling which I have never seen before? After two years, what is the problem?

Hey LynP,

Having your device not show cool mode does not sound ideal during the summer. I am sorry this is the case here, and I would be more than happy to assist you and ensure you are good to go.

If you are seeing stage 2 cooling, there is a good chance that your system has multistage heating and cooling. Do you mind sending in a picture of your current wire set up for me to double-check? I would recommend following this article here as well as it should provide you with more details. Please let me know if that helps out and once that has been sent.

The nest E doesn’t move from 83 degrees. I set it to 74 degrees about 8 hours ago, it’s not working.😩

Hey there Esme,

I'm sorry to hear that your cooling isn't working! I can imagine this issue is pretty frustrating, so I'd be happy to help you look into it. Let me just ask you a few questions to narrow down the problem:

  • When was the last time your cooling worked?
  • Do you have a Heat Pump, or conventional system?
  • Did you turn off the power to your HVAC system?
  • Do you see any kind of error code on your Thermostat?
  • Have you set a temperature schedule for your Thermostat?

There are quite a few different potential problems, such as a wrong configuration, a power issue, a battery issue, a Utility company installed a box on the customer's HVAC system that turns the systems off during rush hours to save energy.

I look forward to your response!

Best regards,

Jeran
