No gas heating

Hi! I’ve installed at least 3 Nest thermostats before, two Nest Learning Thermostats (3rd generation) and two of the new, cheaper Nest thermostats so I am pretty comfortable with wiring.

I recently purchased a new house with gas forced air heating and AC. The AC works just fine but the heat never kicks on. It worked fine with the old Honeywell thermostat as well as manually jumping W1 with Rc and Rh (Rc and R were jumped in the Honeywell. The Honeywell labeled it as Rc and R whereas the Nest has Rc and Rh so I connected Rc to Rc and R to Rh.

The Nest gives me an error saying: “Power wire Rh detected. No connection to equipment. Learn more at nest.com/n72”

I have taken the thermostat off to charge it as well as updated the firmware.

It’s virtually summer now so the cooling is good but I need to fix this sooner than later. The control board also has a C terminal on it so I’ll ultimately run a 5 cable thermostat cable but don’t want to mess with the staples right now as we’re still in the process of moving in and there’s a lot to do.

I ended up just disconnecting the Rh wire from the thermostat which did the job. Thank you to u/Astuf on Reddit!

Hi Sdvdr1997,

Happy to hear that! I appreciate the gesture. It looks like we can consider this one complete, so I will be locking this in 24 hours if we won't hear back from you again. Feel free to start a new thread and we'll be happy to help.

All the best,

Zoe
