Not able to select a temperature preset in google Home App

korz1
Community Member

when in Google Home App, I select the Thermostat, and there is no option to choose which preset I want running now. I want to manually select a preset (eco, comfort, sleep).

I can go into settings and modify and create a custom preset, but not able to manually switch to a preset.

I had to create a schedule to be able to run a preset.

Previously, you could select a preset and manually change to it.

All the instructions I read say to:

choose thermostat - make sure you have mode on Heat, Cool, or Heat and Cool.

then select Temperature presets- which does not exist on my screen.

I have "mode", "hold", "fan" "schedules", "energy dashboard" and two notification boxes - one telling me what schedule i am on, and the second notification box giving me indoor temperature and humidity.

It seems like they’ve removed this ability in the latest app update? I’m also only able to set holds now or manually change the temperature. I cannot manually switch what preset it’s using. Only schedule them.

Hi, @korz1,

Thank you so much for posting in the community. I’m truly sorry you are not able to select the temperature presets option. I’m happy to help you and find a solution.

To troubleshoot effectively, please provide the following information:

  • What type of thermostat do you have?
  • Have you tried performing a factory reset on your thermostat and re-adding it to the app?

Additionally, please share screenshots of the Google Home app, including the available options and features. This will help us with troubleshooting.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Ana

@luciaaa

Did this info help? Do you need additional screenshots?

My wife just noticed this too and not sure why they would totally remove it without an option to bring it back. We have to use Holds now which is inconvenient for our usage currently. I have schedules setup, but my wife is at home today and before we just set the preset and leave it alone with a single touch now, she has to use Holds.

Hopefully, they bring it back.

Hi, @Treck,

Thank you so much for your response. To check if you are a member of the Preview Program, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap "Favorites" or "Devices."
  3. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  4. At the top right, tap "Settings," then "Device information," and then "Preview Program."
  5. If you're a member, you'll see "On" or "On (Preview firmware: #)."

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Best regards,

Ana

I am not a “public preview” member. In fact, I do not even see the “public preview “ under the “device information “ menu.

Same here…I have a feeling this was just a mandated change to the app that wasn’t announced. And now we’re stuck with it.

I do not see Preview Program, so I assume I am not enrolled. Here are my device details.

I was in a chat for over 45 minutes with three different agents - one of which was titled senior technical support - and got nowhere. They didn’t even understand what I was asking. I guess we’ve lost this feature completely, especially since they don’t even understand what they changed.

I was in chat for over an hour with them. They kept telling me how to change it. No one knows what the hell they are doing. They told me to “let the app rest”. I’ve worked on tech support for 20 years. Apps don’t rest. This has been a horrible customer experience

I thought I was going insane this whole time but of course they would just go and remove a great feature from something that was working perfectly normal before. How awesome... but hey, why not try resetting the actual thermostat to fix the app. Yup. Totally makes sense to me! (please note the sarcasm)

Typical disconnect from program develpment and implementation to user..... Unless corrected, I will look for a differnt alternative.... I guess I should know better than just mindlessly accepting auto updates....  Thanks to this community for trying to make a difference...

Adding that I have the exact same issue and all Google Help docs are useless. I'm using the Home app on an Android (a Pixel in fact!).

I've also noticed that the ability to directly select presets in the Google Home app has been removed. This change, implemented without any prior communication, has left, we the users, confused and frustrated. While I appreciate the community specialist's efforts to gather information, asking for screenshots and device details I think it won't address the core issue. Functionality is gone and they should just confirm it in a proper way, otherwise this is like giving false hopes to users.

This unexpected change has significantly impacted user experience. While I understand the potential energy-saving benefits of temporary settings, taking away the functionality and the lack of communication and consideration for user needs is disappointing.

To all who is reading this, please don't get me wrong. Keep posting here, this has been definetely a bad move and we should let the team know how we feel about it.

Thank you for communicating this. I would love to see user feedback actually taken into account for once when it comes to a Google product. And I doubt the community advisor’s ability to make this happen.

To no fault of the community advisors. Google has become an anti consumer company. This is the first home Google device I have purchased and this experience will make me avoid their profits in the future.

same here. This app update is absolutely pathetic. Talk about going backwards. This isn't like making a feature better this is just plain removing one and making it dumber.
